Did you know that you are not alone in your journey upon this earth? There may have been moments when you thought that no one in the whole wide world cared about you or knew you existed. There may have even come a time when you wondered what would happen if you put an ad in the classified.
WANTED: Friend for lonely XX year old female, loves the Lord, looking for a girlfriend/sister who will sing, cry or laugh with me, who will love me as I am and who will walk with me in this thing called life. Must love the Lord and delight in his creation. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx to set up a meeting.
I sure have thought about it a few times. I prayed for a friend for ten years. I told God that I was sure He knew that I was a better person when I had a friend. He surely knew that I was a better wife and mother when I had someone to talk to. I'm sure God heard me, but there were many times when I thought that either he'd forgotten about me or maybe I just wasn't friend material anymore. It sure didn't work to join all sorts of activities in the hopes of finding a friend. I joined everything that came along. I made lots of acquaintances and acquired a lot of commitments, but not the special friend that I needed.
I heard a story about a woman who prayed for a husband. She prayed and waited for seven years. It turns out that her future husband was in New York all that time, walking the path he needed to walk, being where God needed him at the time. Eventually, though, the two met, fell in love, and married. She had been praying to find him and he had been praying to find her. But God needed each of them elsewhere. God's timing. It's hard to wait, but I promise you that it's worth the wait.
In November 2007, I was invited to participate in a Walk To Emmaus. It was a 72 hour weekend away from phones, computers, and clocks. It was 72 hours with sisters in Christ - none of whom I'd known previously - learning and sharing, praying and praising. During that weekend, I was given an opportunity to pray with several other women. I lifted up to the Lord that I was soooooooo lonely. That was all I could say. I don't know why that particular prayer was any more special than any other I'd lifted up previously, but I left that weekend with more friends and sisters than I could count. My life has never been the same since then. One of those sisters shared with me her dream to bring together sisters for study, fellowship, praise, and prayer - to give other women the opportunity to find one another and to be uplifted and loved in a way they might never have experienced before. That friend was Angie Barnes. We share this dream for you and can hardly wait to meet you!
